DRAGON'S BLOOD RESIN
The best antioxidant
from the Peruvian Amazon
of your life
in the world

ORIGIN: Our Dragon's Blood resin is harvested from an Amazonian tree of a pioneering species. This tree grows in secondary forests created by natural factors (winds, falling of other trees, river course changes, etc.) in the region of Iquitos, Perú. Dragon's Blood thrives in these areas as part of the forest's strategy to generate biomass and recover quickly. A Dragon's Blood tree can live up to 10 to 12 years and reach a height of 18 to 22 meters with a diameter of 30 to 60 cm. This makes it a fast-growing species that can be propagated in areas with adult trees through natural regeneration management or in areas without seed trees through reforestation. Its rapid growth makes it a species with a high carbon capture rate, with managed Dragon's Blood forests storing between 69 and 101 tons of CO2 equivalent per hectare (CONCYTEC, 2013).
TREE CARE
The resin is extracted from Croton lechleri tree species. Harvesters identify and select trees of appropriate age and size for extraction.
SUSTAINABLE USE
The origin of our Dragon’s Blood comes from forests managed by Amazonian communities in Datem del Marañon. The trees are not cut down; only small amounts are extracted from each tree, ensuring the tree’s longevity.
RESIN HARVESTING
Once suitable trees are identified, harvesters make small and shallow incisions in the tree bark. The resin, which flows from these incisions, is collected in containers strategically placed beneath them. The resin has a characteristic dark red color, which gives the product its name, «Dragon’s Blood».
PROCESSING AND QUALITY CONTROL
Once collected, the resin is transported to our processing plant, where it undergoes double filtration and analysis to ensure the product’s quality and purity.
PACKAGING AND DISTRIBUTION
The product is packaged in appropriate containers for storage and distribution. These containers are airtight, protecting the resin from moisture and other factors that may affect its quality.
Sustainable management
of Dragon’s Blood
AMAZON ANDES and PROFONAMPE (the largest private environmental fund in Perú) have signed a cooperation agreement to promote the conservation of the Amazon rainforest, ensure resource sustainability, and improve the lives of Achuar and Kiwcha communities in Datem del Marañón, one of the most significant carbon capture zones in the Peruvian Amazon. The Achuar people hold forest permits approved by the local forestry authority (SERFOR - GERFOR) and implement sustainable management practices for Dragon's Blood trees using the Shiringueo method (latex harvesting with the tree standing, without cutting trees). In 2023, approximately 5,000 Dragon's Blood trees were planted, which will capture at least 2,500 tons of CO2 equivalent over the next 8 years as the trees grow.
